The nation’s only student-run overnight shelter providing a safe and affirming environment for young adults experiencing homelessness.
Run entirely by students and volunteers, Y2Y Harvard Square is recruiting a group of dedicated volunteers and supporters who contribute a wide variety of skills and time to the shelter.
“Hope. I have a sense of hope. Even though I am going through what I am going through, I still see a bright future ahead of me.”
“What unified us was this simple belief that people our own age should not be sleeping right outside our dorms.”
“I’m definitely most proud of not giving up. Not only for myself, but for not giving up on my kids.”
Y2Y began as a project of student volunteers from the student-run Harvard Square Homeless Shelter (HSHS). For over 30 years, HSHS built a reputation as one of the safest and most welcoming shelters in the Boston area at very low cost. Y2Y and HSHS are both programs of the Phillips Brooks House Association, a Harvard College-affiliated 501(c)3 that has served the Cambridge and Boston communities for over 100 years.
